Random Rants

Moving companies are crooks. When I moved down here they packed my things and when it was in transit they gave me a window of two weeks to receive it. They said if I wasn’t home they would basically keep my things for themselves. I just started a new job and couldn’t be home for two weeks. I had to have an attorney call them and miraculously I had a new delivery time down to the hour.

@adam313 You were the first person that I genuinely connected with on the Forum, and I assure you that no one was happier than me to see you back. I wouldn’t want to hear this from/about anyone but especially not from you. Don’t really know what else to say. Take care of yourself.

@Giles Wow. Thank you for sharing that experience. I’m sorry that is what happened. Just like your mom, mine is also getting denied assistance by the authorities because she’s “not disabled enough.” We have been denied social security twice now, and the state will not grant access to Medicaid without an official declaration of disability, which is exactly what the Social Security Disability application is supposed to do. So we’ve had no access to assistance and this has all come out of my very small pockets, which has not provided her the environment she deserves. Where she is living right now is a loooong way from my preferred location, and predictably problematic.
@neph93 Good grief is right! I’m stewing and fuming and all those things with no one to talk about the details to and no real way to levy punishment on the wrongdoers and no outlet for the frustration, because my mom doesn’t need the negativity. Thank you for permitting my rants and thank you for such abundant sympathies.
@DougNg That’s an inspiring solution. I’m glad you were able to secure leverage over them. I’m unfortunately still learning how to master those techniques.
@Jett129 The pleasure was all mine. I wish I could’ve connected more, admittedly I have been severely discombobulated and scattered over the last several years and have not found the stability to reach out to any of my friends for good times and celebrations. I am grateful for your kind heartedness
@sabergirl yea I’m definitely out of my element. Hopefully the universe is forging within me some new alloy called “Adam’s fecked life” and hopefully it will be suitably adapted to the circumstances I will encounter moving forward. But I have my doubts, we will see. But thank you!

@Seul vegetarianism to cannabalism?!? “I don’t usually eat meat, but when I do, I eat meat-heads.”

@Giles - Your mothers struggles with manic depression (Bi Polar) must have been traumatic for you to witness. Your description of her experience shocked me to the core and left me feeling anger and sadness.
@adam313 - Your present situation and that of your mothers also leaves me with feelings of sadness and anger. Continue as you have begun by reaching out, sharing whats going on for you and take support from whoever whenever.

@adam313 that is a fucking shit show. And having to deal with the bureaucracy that seems only to happy to deny a woman in need-
Giles that is appalling. Appalling.

Roof leaks suck.

In addition to my previous statement, I'll add that we've had thunderstorms three of the past four days, which means my daughter's room has flooded three of the last four days. Last night's storm included high winds, torrential rain, and hail, resulting in water damage in a bathroom and my son's room, too.
And this morning I found that the hail did this
It's been a long week.
I appreciate the joke, though, @Seul… -
scary photo @Chris ! glad you guys are all ok.

Dented the shit out of it too, what a nightmare.
The roof, though, agh. I'm sorry for your trouble, Chris.
You just finished a bunch of work on the house if I recall. ::) -
I wish it were just a storm causing damage in my town. Minneapolis is making the world news for all the wrong reasons. we have had 2 days and nights of rioting resulting in buildings being looted and burned. This police officer was wrong and should be charged, but out economy is in the brink now, and this isn’t helping. Our governor called up the national guard to assist. All nearby towns are closing all shops and boarding up windows in anticipation of the rioting spreading to the suburbs.
I work about 2 miles from Minneapolis, but thankfully I live further out. I have a family member who is a police officer, and his family is not looking forward to him going back to work.
Minnesotans are better than this, police are better than this…
End rant.
Happy birthday to my lovey wife tomorrow.

This was St Louis 6 years ago with the Michael Brown shooting. We had widespread rioting throughout North county and violent demonstrations downtown. A lot of the violent offenders arrested weren’t from the area at all but came in town for the looting and burning. The sad thing is that there were so many peaceful demonstrations that were ruined by a few folks.
The Judge who did the sentencing for Officer Wilson lived a few blocks away from me, so there was a lot of tension in my neighborhood. The national guard was set up 2 blocks from my home. Luckily all the demonstrations done near us were peaceful, poignant, and did justice to what the family wanted to see.

Oh, man… that's tough.
Is any of this covered by your homeowner's insurance? I know this probably falls into the "act of god" category but, still...We'll see. The roof repair guys are coming tomorrow to try and find the leak, which will determine what repairs will look like. Water remediation crew was here today and they were optimistic about the relative lack of damage and retained moisture in the walls, floor, and ceiling. The deductible on our homeowners insurance is fairly high, so this all may be out of pocket, regardless of coverage.
All in all, it's a disheartening chain of events, but we're healthy and safe, and stuff can always get fixed. We'll be fine.

Why are the English capable of being such utter twats? Since households visits have been permitted neighbours on two sides have had people visit everyday, drinking, music banging. Pre lockdown they were pretty reasonable families, no they are acting like fuckwits.
Legally, as they have young children, there is very little that can be done short of appealing to their better nature. I have to have very confidential phone calls and have been working from home.
Maybe I should just give in and go to a beach in Kent and get into a drunken fight like others seem to be doing. We are a sorry nation.
