Random Rants

As someone who lives a place where we go from 24 hour darkness to 24 hour daylight over a six month period, I can assure you all that daylight savings is pointless bollocks. The steady change in the length of a day is something we as a species are programmed for. A sudden overnight change, we are not.

DST literally carries a death toll. Not only from higher incidences of fatal heart attacks after the spring forward, but medical and other errors. This is pretty well supported in scientific and economic studies.
But we can't even move to the metric system, which would vastly simplify life…. or, hell, a 24 hour clock.
So we're stuck with it.
-
I agree with switching to metric, but the last thing America needs right now is another Y2K type prep scenario in anticipation of the switch.
Well maybe not the last thing we need.
-
The Eastern states of Australia are nominally in the same timezone. However, New South Wales, Victoria, and Tasmania use daylight savings time, whilst Queensland does not.
So for six months a year, there is a one hour difference between these states. :o
That’s like AZ here, they just left Mountain for Pacific and will rejoin us in the Fall. One of those policy decisions that makes life a pain in the ass whether or not you’ve bought in to it.
DST was genius when we were burning whale oil at night but asinine now.
-
It really does, but it is we who left them I guess, and Pacific took our place.
Luckily I don't care enough to go all Kanye over it.
-
and start putting the date first and the month second like the civilized world.
of course if we were civilized we wouldn't spell it with a z -
There I think we’re better than the civilized.
Nobody gets dates right. Should be YYYY-MM-DD. Then you get implicit sorting if you have a list and it goes consistently from large to small at least month followed by day gets the indexing from large to small logically.
-
So they’re Springing Backwards and Falling Forwards? That seems like a very AZ thing to do.
slow clap

Well shit… Maybe there's hope after all.
and @Matt more about organizing files in my case

Dammit I read about this yesterday but I naively thought that since it'd passed the senate, it'd already gone through the house. And not til 2023? Faaaaaack. So, one more fall back and spring forward left… bloody hell.
