Coronavirus (Covid-19) Discussion

Who wants to start a band named ALTERED JEANS?.. Free Booster shots and hemming backstage.
I'm feeling a wee lash back from the shot I got yesterday. Nothing bad, at all. Just slept like a baby, and am a bit sore.
Really puts my mind at ease though… With all the people I'll be seeing the coming two weeks at work (festive season and working in a supermarket - it's not Wittgenstein)... Just hoping the couple of folk I'll be seeing for x-mas and new year's eve will have had acces to a booster shot as well...
Anyway!.. Back to using 7G for me (it's WICKED FAST and 5-dimensional)... Big break and a sturdy gin-tonic will fix what ail me I reckon...

…and we're back
I am sorry if I escalated us into an unpleasant place. It's just very difficult for me to understand and tolerate these attitudes and positions as someone trained in science and formal logic who works in the healthcare industry and comes from a medical family (father literally an infectious disease doctor and sister a front-line, emergency doctor having top deal with the damage caused by mis- (and dis-) information). This is personal and this is life and death.
Since I can't resist taking the bait and getting drawn into the rabbit hole, I'm using the ignore list now.

My wife’s very good friend who has been resisting the vaccine has Covid now. My wife’s been biting her tongue all year despite being extremely pro vax and anti anti vax. When she told me my response was “Good.” Now after Uncle Neph’s stern talking to I feel I may have responded a wee bit harshly. I’ll revisit that convo with the wife. Hopefully her friend hasn’t expired in the meantime.

I work in a public middle school in Maryland. At the start of the school year, staff would receive a COVID related email maybe once or twice a month. This week we have received six emails in five days about positive COVID cases on campus. Three staff members are out with the virus today and two more just left this morning because they were symptomatic. The three positive cases had at least two shots, one of which I know was boosted.
There are a handful of students who are super annoying and almost always have their mask down, using it as a chin diaper. Two of the worst contenders both caught COVID and we all just shake our heads.
I switched to KN95 masks now and I feel a little better about things but still a little worried in general. I'm boosted and doing everything we are supposed to do but who knows what the next few weeks will reveal.
Edit: literally just got another email from our principal. If anyone is interested, this is the message we get:
"I am writing to share that an individual who has been present at CMS has reported testing positive for COVID-19.
During our case investigation, individuals who had close contact with this individual were contacted individually and advised to quarantine at home, monitor their health, and to contact their healthcare provider for any health concerns. Close contact is generally defined as closer than 6 feet for 15 minutes or greater.
While we believe the risk of exposure to others to be low, we are sharing this information out of an abundance of caution and to be transparent. If you have concerns about your health, please reach out to your healthcare provider.
The health and safety of our community is our highest priority. CMS follows COVID-19 related health and safety guidelines, including requiring face coverings for staff and students, encouraging frequent hand washing, and following all cleaning and disinfection protocols."

Thanks to @neph93 for his sound and fair judgment as moderator and for keeping this train on the track. I enjoy participating in this thread and will try to be as empathetic as possible when interacting with folks whose opinions differ from mine. Easier said than done with this subject matter but I will try.
@Oaktavia We get letters like your principal sent (almost verbatim btw) pretty much weekly from my kid’s elementary school. They currently have a mask wearing policy but it appears to be going away next semester. My kids are fully vaccinated but I can’t imagine what the cases will look like here once omicron becomes the dominant variant and the school removes a mask requirement.

I find Marty Makary from Hopkins to be a good source of info. He retweeted this the other day. Thought it would be relevant here. Japan’s policy.

I beg to differ @Matt . My sympathies lie with health care workers who have endured a year in hell with no end in sight. The covid deniers are filling ICUs and delaying medical care to people who are ill through no fault of their own.

Some fantastically positive science coming out of South Africa re cross infection, being supported by impirical data evidence. Indemic status on its way!

My barber where I’m apprenticing just tested pos after dealing with flu like symptoms all weekend. They’ve resolved already but he’s staying home for the week. I’ve been ill since Sat but feel a bit better today. A weird cough that was a 7 on Sat, a 4 yesterday and a 1 today. Some soreness but I can’t tell if that’s from being sick or working out against wife’s orders. I’ll get a test this weekend but I’m not going anywhere this week.
For what it’s worth my barber got two boosters. He was in Walgreens and they were giving them out like Halloween candy so he said why not. He has a bad heart and the diabetes so I’m glad he did it now.
Stay safe everyone. Get your boosters.

I guess so. We never got tested way back when we were in the road but I’m going to get one on Thursday. I don’t have anywhere to go but we’ll need to keep an eye on the kids with school. We’re all good though. Just living in the age of crazy. Gives me a chance to catch up on Mario Kart.

Today was the first day back at school for the girls and both their teachers were out. I think everyone is going to get this now. Hopefully that S African research is onto something and the Omicron will be the trick to finally establishing some kind of herd immunity. Or zombies. 50/50 really.
