@TonyV2022 I haven't got any UES flannels, and without knowing which one you've got it's hard to make any points of comparison, but I have 3 IH flannels (buffalo indigo workshirt, IH 20th Anniversary western, and this season's black herringbone western) and I consider them all good value for money.
-
@TonyV2022 you are very correct in your initial impression of price. It’s a very hard (green) pill to swallow. However, once you get that flannel on your person, nothing else will ever compare again. That green pill led to a complete wardrobe overhaul for me.

@TonyV2022 first of all welcome to the forum! UHF from IH are definitely one of a kind.. but what makes it one of a kind, first of all the aspero cotton.. it’s great. The way the shirt is brushed, every stitch is perfect the feel, the fit, the coziness on the inside of the shirt, overstructured. And when you think it’s worth it? Buy! But beware it’s a addicting thing this brand called Iron Heart! And when you be gentle it will last for years and many years to come!

@TonyV2022 not gonna try to sell you on them, but if you want to dip your toe in more affordably, if you don't have a stockist nearby, might look on the secondary market here for UHF.

Shirt looks beautiful, but the price is nuts! I have UES flannels that I bought direct form Japan. With including tax (to UK) these are about half the price - are they really half as good? Serious question.
I discovered UES flannels before iron heart anything. They make fantastic flannels which are really well constructed and the UES corporate ethos and outlook and their high quality means I am still a huge fan (and whisper it their puca purcara loopwheel sweat does knock the socks off my also much loved iron heart heavy loopwheel sweats).
My initial view of IH flannels was pretty prejudiced based in part on vintage fanboy types with an iron heart beef who basically said UES / TFH etc were all far superior to overpriced, overrated IH etc. but I started getting on the forum, researching and thinking while they are expensive they look awesome and a lot of what seemed like people really focused on quality, authenticity, tough beauty etc all raved about them (without spending a lot of time dissing the not like like competition). So I bought one and many journeys down the rabbit hole over the last 18 months most of my favourite clothes and flannels are IH.
Cut:In terms of direct comparison I am a western cut fan and UES do a pretty boxy work style cut with relatively narrow shoulders and a bit of a flare so on cut and fit an IH western (for my physique at least) with wider shoulders and a tapered cut is just far better looking.
Style: I do like some of the UeS flannel patterns (I own 5) but some of their patterns especially this season and last have tended towards the garish and plain fuck ugly. While some of the IH patterns are not to my taste generally they tend towards the more coherent, attractive and flexible - a huge plus for me as you can wear them across a broader range of outfits and settings whereas some of the UES patterning seems designed to be intentionally and unnecessarily loud
Build: ues make very well constructed clothes and they are tough and last. Iron heart though are the elite - next level build quality
Value: I think the UES flannels are great and while I recognise by any rational measure ih are expensive i am comfortable i am getting value for money.
So I summary ues are great but I personally think IH are better - you may well though feel differently

Really well said @Pete ! I am also a big UES fan and have a few flannels and other items. I love them. I would agree with your assessment also that IH is a step above though. It is like many other well made things, they are both high quality, but one takes it a step further.

I, too, am a UES fan and own a couple of their flannels. However, I really liked the colorway of this particular IH flannel and noticed that Dutil had it on sale last week. So I went ahead and took the plunge and… wow, I'm kind of mad at myself for not doing so earlier. I really like the Western details (pockets, yoke, and snaps) and my wife seems to think that the yoke makes my shoulders appear broader. The soft, heavily brushed inside of the material is also superior in feel to any other flannel I've ever worn. My only complaint is that the sleeves run long (for me), and that problem is easily solved by turning up the cuffs and snapping them into place.
I'm now officially a fan and will be copping another Western UHF later this year, after the fall/winter models drop.

Interesting to hear… TFH are back making flannels again (which is great), but in their absence I've noticed UES getting a lot of praise. I´ll be interested to read more comparisons with Uhf´s.

I own 2 Ues Flannels. I would say they are very good. But IH UHF's are special because of their unique Material, construction and not least the deep impressive and diverse colours. If I put UES besides IH UHF then you see brighter and deeper colours. My humble opinion. IH is more addicting than other brands :o
