@RubyRae said in IHSH-189-BRN - 17oz Duck CPO Work Shirt - "The UnTucked" - Brown:
Anyone have an experience with shrinkage after washing this duck material (this CPO specifically)? Thanks
Found this from a few years back;
https://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum//post/488895It matches my experience with duck pants; lengths shrink noticeably and widths stay mostly the same.

After hearing from @jordanscollected about the potential for the duck to come up a bit in length with a hot wash, my intrigue got the better of me and I decided to try and see if I could shave off a centimetre or so from the length through washing, whilst still maintaining the sleeve length - which is a critical dimension for me!
The approach:
- pre-soak arms in a bowl of ice cold (literally) water for 20mins immediately before throwing in the washer
- 60degree wash / 800 spin / woolite
- Some gentle stretch to the arms after the wash alongside the general ‘re-shaping’ process when setting to hang dry on a hanger
The results are in.
Pre-wash dimensions:
- Chest 59.5cm
- Sleeves 69.5cm
- Length 81cm (!!!)
- Shoulder 53.5cm
Soaking the arms…
Post-wash dimensions:
- Chest 59.5cm (0cm diff)
- Sleeves 69.5cm (0cm diff - phew!!)
- Length 79.5cm (-1.5cm diff - woop!!)
- Shoulder 53cm (-0.5cm diff)
Post-wash photos (same outfit as pre-wash photos further up in this thread)…
Overall I am extremely pleased with the results. For me the 1.5cm that has been shaved off the length just dials the piece in a lot more, although may not come across that well in the pre/post photos.

Great write up @long_john86 this type of content is what makes the forum valuable beyond just entertainment. And no hem curl!!!!
-
@jordanscollected Cheers. Yes zero curl
Now the only final contemplation that is left is whether I should pimp my ride with a cheeky snap upgrade to the chest pockets -
I suggest one of each snap, bottom to top. Black pearl, white pearl, copper, brass, and GAH

Up north in Sweden. A beautiful autumn day

@Oaktavia thanks man

@Oaktavia if someone (me…) manage to buy 0.5 size too small (mixed up UK and US) they take some time to master. I spent the first two days wearing them walking around London in April and yes I got serious blisters .
If you are smart and get the correct size and take it a bit easy in the beginning I do not think there will be any major issues.
They are fine now BTW.

@Jcaz6996 great to hear all got sorted in the end! If you don’t mind me asking, what were the import fees like on the order?

Untucked in Mansfield

Just got this. Fits the way I want, as an over t-shirt type of shirt, will be too tight with a UHF but I don't think I want to size up for the rare occasion.
-
@Denimminer Looks perfect!
-
That's a good fit, @Denimminer - my fit is very similar. I plan to wear mine over a T shirt, and I like having some room to move.
-
Boom!
-
Instant favorite this thing…

@weftyarn I agree, and looks really good on you. This is one I terribly missed on the sizing, and might need to purchase again one day to dial it in. I'm glad I joined this forum to help guide sizing references and avoid those mistakes in the future, but live and learn. Great CPO nonetheless.
