IRON HEART FORUM "HOMETOWN HEROES" PICTURE COMPETITION - SPRING 2022
-
Great to read about all these places. Really bringing the forum to life.
My photo for today is of Chicken and I in my garden. I feel lucky to have a place of my own, a beautiful partner, and a good little dog now to make it even sweeter. Wearing grey kersey and shinyaka 888's.
Part of why I got into Iron Heart is that I moved down to Portsmouth on the South coast of the UK for work without knowing anything about the city and found out that IHUK is close by. Then learned that there are an incredibly cool and friendly team running the place.
My born and raised hometown from Seattle is long way away from here, but becoming part of communities through work, sport, and now even clothing starts to make a place feel like it is one's new hometown. Not sure I'm there yet after only four years, but hope to be at some point.

Another stonking day folks. I agree with @jordanscollected it is going to be tough when it comes to awarding prizes. I'd like to take this opportunity to send a big thanks to Jeff ( @jordanscollected ), he kindly agreed to disqualify himself from prize consideration and help me put this thing together. He was instrumental in making it happen.
As for my offering, it is winter half term here, so no pics of 18 year olds desperately avoiding the acquisition of skills and knowledge. Nor can I offer any pictures of the lovely (::)) town of Bodø. (although that may happen tomorrow).
I'm using the time off work to get in some hours with my mitre saw and other sharp, noisy tools and finish off some house renovation chores. I'm been cutting up and installing MDF wall boards all day…
IHSH-106 and IHV-19 are two of my favourite items of work wear to work in. The CPO is warm and the pockets room all the pencils, measuring tapes, lasers and so forth, while the vest keeps my tees from getting eff´ed up and has even bigger pockets to keep knives and multi-tools handy.

Dinner date with the wife at one of our favorite spots in Brooklyn.

Nothing to contribute today (no time and no chance of matching today’s offerings). I’ll try to get another in before the end.
@Jcaz6996 glad I’m not the only one on here who works a stupid distance from home. I had to visit Newport a couple of times to sit exams at the IPO some years ago, which has tainted my view of the place.

Ugliest Building ? Probably. Name says it all. Hasn't been in use for some time but you can almost hear what went down there. I actually had a hard time trying to pick which one I thought was ugliest as I drove around. These small farm communities are slowly going away.

Me with that "just dropped the kids off at school and have the whole day off" glow all over my face.

Brief stop under the Septa Market-Frankford line on my walk to pick up my dog at daycare. 17oz duck type III, UHF, and 666-XHS.

I moved back to my birth town of Poole in Dorset last October it’s got a beautiful natural harbour. This is a spot as children we’d fish where the fishing boats would come in. We’d ask the fishermen if they had any old bait they didn’t want. One day the fisherman threw us two quite crispy mackerel to use. After some time I asked Malc my cousin where the bait was he told me he freshened them up in the sea and sold them for two quid to an elderly lady who was going to barbecue them for her and her husband.

Great fotos and great stories - thanks to everyone here! Too much work yesterday, so I didn't make it in time. Well, to make it easier for @neph93 and @jordanscollected , I opt out for any prize in this contest (not to mention it would be very hard to succeed against most of your pics, e.g. the young lady's middle finger salute).
Here's a foto of me trying out a triumph (that I bought and customized) about 5 yrs ago, wearing my first IH pair of jeans, a 634S.

Newport South Wales…
Great insight into your everyday. Thanks @Jcaz6996 I'm from Barry originally… Saw my first ever proper gig in Newport, Metallica in 1989...
Cheers @neph93
Your from Barry that’s crazy we go to Cold Knap quite often for our boys to go on the skate park. I used to spend a lot of time down there when I was younger skating.Newport used to be great place for live music back in the day it’s nothing like that now.
You’ve given me a great idea for my next photo. -

THE UGLIEST PLACE IN TOWN..
4.3.2022TJ's was a music venue and nightclub located on Clarence Place in Newport, South Wales. It opened in 1985 and shortly became a live music venue.
It was an integral part of the so-called toilet circuit and the Newport music scene, particularly catering to fans of rock music. The club was given the moniker "The Legendary TJ's by Radio 1 DJ John Peel.On 3 May 1994, the then up-and-coming Manchester band Oasis performed at TJ's following a small venue tour of the UK. The band were in South Wales frequently that year, recording at Loco Studios near Usk and Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, and had begun performing shortly after the release of their single "Supersonic".In a setup similar to the present day Clwb Ifor Bach, the band played to the Newport crowd on an un-raised stage, practically level with the crowd. The band performed with local group 60 Ft. Dolls, and among the concert goers were members of the Manic Street Preachers. It was later that week that Liam Gallagher was photographed for their first NME cover in Newport's King's Hotel on High Street.
1990s and 2000s
Catatonia filmed their single "Mulder and Scully" at the venue. It is allegedly the place that Kurt Cobain proposed to Courtney Love. Other bands who have played at TJ's early in their careers include The Manic Street Preachers, Green Day, The Offspring, Lostprophets, Iron Maiden, The Stone Roses, Muse, Primal Scream, Descendents, NOFX, Misfits, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Lagwagon, The Bouncing Souls, The Vandals, The Ataris, and Skunk Anansie.TJ's was voted one of the top 50 'Big Nights Out' in the world by FHM in December 1997.
John Sicolo, owner of the club throughout its period of popularity, died on 14 March 2010, aged 66.A tribute concert in his honour, headlined by Goldie Looking Chain, was held in the city's John Frost Square on 10 July 2010. On 15 September 2011 TJ's was sold at auction for £242,000.
In 2019 it was announced that the property was to become a 58-bedroom hotel, after councillors unanimously backed redevelopment plans. The development will restore the Grade II listed buildings facing onto Clarence Place, which have fallen into disrepair in recent years.

Few pics of Regensburg, UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006:
This is AFAIK the oldest remaining part of Regensburg dating to 179 BC, the gate to a Roman encampment.
Regensburg Cathedral was built on the site of an old Romanesque cathedral. Construction started in the late 13th century and wasn't completed until 1872 when the spires were completed.
The Stone Bridge was built between 1135 and 1146 and remained the only bridge to span both arms of the Danube in the city area of Regensburg until 1938.
Old Town Hall, where the main diplomatic assembly of the Holy Roman Empire, the Eternal Diet, convened between 1635 and 1806.
