RAWscore - the hit or miss fit and combo space

Thanks peeps for your contributions so far. A resounding miss for Viberg Boondockers & kilties. I wonder if there will be any challengers to the consensus overnight?
-
I like the contrast of the kilties.

I'd say the fit looks spot on. Filson stuff tends to be sized generously so my experience has been to size down. I've read good things about their wool garments so this vest should keep you pretty warm, especially if you're using it as a base layer under a coat.
@gaseousclay @Paul9221 Thanks!
Yeah, the sizing aspect is definitely correct. I sized down to XS from my usual size of S. I bought the vest to layer under a coat and also to layer over my UHFs as I want to get more wear out of my UHFs. Not to mention of course; it looks badass layered over a wabash shirt.
To be honest, after buying this vest, I've given a serious thought to purchasing the matching Mackinaw Wool Cruiser (Alaska Fit) coat in olive green as well ::) The reviews on the Internet do mention however that it doesn't stop wind that well. I wonder if paired with my UHFs that issue could be solved?
I suggest trying to find a NOS or used Filson . The quality took a nosedive after they were acquired by some corporate grifters about 15 years ago. The newer wool has a stiff cardboard like feel to it, doesn't drape like the old jackets and seems thinner to me.

To complicate matters further, quite by accident, I stumbled across the rough-out side of the kiltie and decided to give it a try with the Boondockers. I really like the rough-out kiltie combination . . . . what are you guys saying?
smooth side . . .
Rough-out side . . .
-
That looks better than the smooth side out but I still vote no kiltie on the Boondockers. I agree with @gaseousclay is saying that they are better suited to a boot like the Jobmaster or other boots with a bigger toe profile. At the end of the day you just gotta do you though!
-
I would vote no to the rough out side and the smooth side. Just my opinion.
-
Without.
-
No kiltie. If you want a kiltie roughout is better than smooth.
-
I'd say without on the kilties, but you do you hun

So I've been wearing my 526L (V1) again lately and I'm afraid that it's perhaps too small on me? I know that Type III is supposed to be on the shorter side but I'm thinking it might be smaller than the "standard". What do you guys think?

I think that's spot on. Great fit. Length is perfect.
-
As a member who has worn (S)mall Iron Heart, that is too small. And also the reason I don’t own a type III. They are great for the larger sizes. People can wear them at basically THE SAME LENGTH as their UHF’s and IHSH’s. It’s not fair. But on our end of the spectrum, these jackets are just too short with an untucked shirt. Even with the modified length.
Your pics indicate the smallness. It’s not just the length, in your case, but the chest. Especially up around the neck, which is probably why you’re feeling like it’s too small. Just look at what it’s doing to the undershirt. I don’t think you’ll be happy with it long term.
Sell it. BUY ANOTHER one size up.

A few thoughts…
If I saw you on the street, I wouldn't think that that jacket was too small. It looks good!
On the other hand, if I could only have one type III, I would get one large enough to allow me to button up with a UHF underneath. If you can have one of each, fantastic!
I have a 526Lod that fits me like yours, so I bought another one a size up thinking that I'd sell the smaller one. But the smaller one fits so well over just a T that I just can't bring myself to get rid of it.
The non-modified type IIIs are short per design. Even the modified duck type III is that short, so don't let that scare you away.
-
I think it looks great - wish I could wear a type III like that - as long as you wear it just with a T underneath and unbuttoned. It's really perfect! For all other wears you could get (another) one one size up.
When I began reading the forum and heard that some people own more than one type III (with these prizes) I was almost outraged, now my own collection is growing …

Thats how its supposed to look–-hang on to it.
Looks like you've got some fades coming through too
