I live alone and have nobody to help let of this steam so here we go:
My mom has been battling early onset dementia/Alzheimer’s for all of 2020. Before that, while I was selfishly, ignorantly and futilely pursuing career aspirations in the awful Colorado Cannabis commercialization, my mom was suffering without telling anyone and without anyone really grasping the magnitude of her symptoms and their consequences. So during one of her bad days back in January she told her apartment that she was moving (long story behind it) and called her moving company to come pack up her things because she didn’t want to be in her apartment anymore. They came, they packed up her things for her and put them on a truck. But she didn’t have a new apartment rented, and had not even discussed the move with the apartment complex she had the movers drive to. So of course, they can’t unload and they can’t take the things back, so they put them in their “vault” awaiting further instructions. Well, she got real sick and had to be hospitalized, and so long story short, her stuff has been sitting in huge wooden crates for all this time. And it’s not a storage company, so they don’t allow access to their “vault”. So all her clothes, shoes, everything has been locked away awaiting payment for the moving, storing and everything. I’ve had to buy her new versions of everything she needed during all this time.
I am finally in Texas long enough and with enough money to throw at this to make it go away, but when I get them to unload her crates onto a truck, I see what an awful job they did packing her things. And this is why I’m ranting! These men just haphazardly tossed an ill woman’s belongings into crates without wrapping or organizing or taping up boxes. Leather couches and chairs stacked improperly with scratches and stains from the dirt. It’s a shit show and what’s worse is what they did to my artwork. Gold leaf frames with moving tape stuck directly in the frame. Chipped paint, huge chunks of frame missing, gouge marks, scuffs. As Giles knows from shipping one of my pieces all the way to Gosport, I am particular about keeping my artwork safe and secure. And framing is an enormous expense. The framing jobs on my mom’s pieces are upwards of $2000. And now they are all fucked. It’s a disgrace to see grown men taking advantage of an unassuming, distressed woman. I’m boiling hot still this morning.
All of it might be available soon at scratch and dent prices if anyone needs meaningful handmade art for their walls
Thanks for listening, back into the madness I go…

As a generalization, the world is a shit place for the vulnerable.
My mother was a manic depressive, who craved friendship and company and do almost anything and put up with anything for what she perceived as friendship. She was very ill, but not ill enough in the eyes of the authorities for us to have her placed in a place of safety. In the 10 years up until I basically kidnapped her from the hospital where she was recovering from being beaten up by her latest drug-fuelled "boy friend" (imagine the worst character you can from Train Spotting and you're getting close), she had every single thing she owned stolen, she had 2 rival drug gangs living in her house, one would access from the back and barricade the front door, the other would break the barricade down and barricade the back door - repeat ad nauseam…When she died, we basically put what was left of her possessions into black bags and chuck them....
As a close friend said to me once, when I was having a rant, "Giles, the human race did not get to be the top of the food chain, by being nice"....

Moving companies are crooks. When I moved down here they packed my things and when it was in transit they gave me a window of two weeks to receive it. They said if I wasn’t home they would basically keep my things for themselves. I just started a new job and couldn’t be home for two weeks. I had to have an attorney call them and miraculously I had a new delivery time down to the hour.

@adam313 You were the first person that I genuinely connected with on the Forum, and I assure you that no one was happier than me to see you back. I wouldn’t want to hear this from/about anyone but especially not from you. Don’t really know what else to say. Take care of yourself.

@Giles Wow. Thank you for sharing that experience. I’m sorry that is what happened. Just like your mom, mine is also getting denied assistance by the authorities because she’s “not disabled enough.” We have been denied social security twice now, and the state will not grant access to Medicaid without an official declaration of disability, which is exactly what the Social Security Disability application is supposed to do. So we’ve had no access to assistance and this has all come out of my very small pockets, which has not provided her the environment she deserves. Where she is living right now is a loooong way from my preferred location, and predictably problematic.
@neph93 Good grief is right! I’m stewing and fuming and all those things with no one to talk about the details to and no real way to levy punishment on the wrongdoers and no outlet for the frustration, because my mom doesn’t need the negativity. Thank you for permitting my rants and thank you for such abundant sympathies.
@DougNg That’s an inspiring solution. I’m glad you were able to secure leverage over them. I’m unfortunately still learning how to master those techniques.
@Jett129 The pleasure was all mine. I wish I could’ve connected more, admittedly I have been severely discombobulated and scattered over the last several years and have not found the stability to reach out to any of my friends for good times and celebrations. I am grateful for your kind heartedness
@sabergirl yea I’m definitely out of my element. Hopefully the universe is forging within me some new alloy called “Adam’s fecked life” and hopefully it will be suitably adapted to the circumstances I will encounter moving forward. But I have my doubts, we will see. But thank you!

@Seul vegetarianism to cannabalism?!? “I don’t usually eat meat, but when I do, I eat meat-heads.”
