DIY Indigo dyeing- A how to thread
-
I think on a lot of people cursing is a sign of low intelligence, especially on me. But I have worked in heavy industry for so long (among other hives of scum and villainy too) and I now have a pretty filthy mouth. I try to hold most of it back though… and I thought swearing here was against the rules for a time. Like everyone used to say, "feck". But I noticed that has since gone by the wayside. And every once in a while, I put an f-bomb in there if it makes what I am writing seem a bit more colorful.
I hope in earnest I never sincerely offend anybody here though. Really and truly. I often think about how it would be cool if there was an unmoderated part to the forum, and that access was gained by invitation only. But then I think in reality the less I say the better.

all good Mike!

I'm just catching up with the forum after running around for 10 days, and this thread is really great. Thanks for sharing your project, Mike @Filthy 21/23oz junkie

My pleasure. Hey Anne, I hope this new year is the best year ever for you. @sabergirl

Thanks, Mike @Filthy 21/23oz junkie, I've had a lot of challenges to face in the past couple years, but I'm hopeful that things are on the up and up!

I am redying my favorite hat. I decided to just buy some synthetic dye instead of natural indigo this time. I just heated to water on the stove to boiling and added the dye then the hat. I'll leave it in there until tomorrow probably.

Blue AF
Seems like it might fade to an electric blue.

My hat turned out great.

Sure any time! @goosehd

@Haddtoo 555 I have just purchased another indigo kit if you still want me to dye you something… I plan on dying this shirt next week.

I dyed some of my shit with natural indigo this time…
Looks like I got a good deep color there but I hope it isn't splotchy because I didn't follow the instructions and just went for it based on my previous knowledge…
-
I wasn't satisfied with the color so I did a couple more dunks @Paul9221 I'll keep you posted.
Socks turned out nice.

Epic work on the socks Mike. Now you can have indigo stains on the inside AND outside of your shoes
-
Final product, I washed the fuckout of it in synthropol to get all of the fugitive indigo out. Used way too much and I had to wash it three times to get all the suds out of the washer

Thanks. Seems like I could have used a tad less iron for a bluer color. I also should have played it flat instead of hanging it up because you can see where the shirt got darker as it dries… But I guess it's pretty sweet. I like it.

Mike, I like that subtle gradient actually. What I wouldn't like and would be most worried about would be blotchy inconsistencies. I also think the tone is cool, it's something different.
I look forward to seeing your Smurf feet when you wear those socks
Really admire your DIY spirit @Filthy
I may try to do some tie dyes with indigo since some of the ingredients like soda ash are the same.
