Coronavirus (Covid-19) Discussion

Yes. We have to complete what is known as a Passenger Locator Form, it asks for proof of negative test results (within the last 72 hours), vax status, address, proof that you have booked "day 2 test to release" upon return, etc etc etc. You are not allowed onto the plane without a completed form, it is also loaded electronically and ties into electronic passport control in UK. If somehow you get onto the plane without having completed the form, you will be denied electronic entry and probably have an "interesting" discussion with Border Force/Immigration officials.
All 11 people tested negative before leaving the Bahamas, some started to feel ill on the plane home, some, like Alex, managed to test negative for 3 days or so, but he went positive yesterday…

So @Alex and Kira had a really fun intentional vacation, and are having to follow it up with a not so fun unintentional one. I wish you the best.
I hear more and more news like this re: vaccinated people testing positive.
The Minnesota state fair is still planning to go forward this year. While I never attend anyhow, over 1 million people from the 5 state area normally do. Many of them kids who will be starting back up at school the following week. Could get interesting.

I hope everyone is going to be okay. XX

The thing is, a year ago, i would have been crapping myself if my loved ones were getting covid, now I'm pretty sanguine about it.
Last December I lost 2 relatives who had not been vaxxed and who contracted it (the only 2 people I then knew who had contracted it). Now I know about 20 people who have been double-dipped and have caught it, and not one of them has even been hospitalised, let alone died….

Yeah I think if you get it and have been previously vaccinated it's pretty much like a head cold.

Thanks all. I am not too bad at all, have bad cold/cough symptoms plus finding it hard to catch my breath sometimes. Kira has it worse, she has the same symptoms as me, but has lost her smell and taste and is super fatigued. Shes basically been sleeping since Monday. She just got prescribed the dexamethasone/azithromycin cocktail so hopefully that helps her recover soon.

Get well soon guys

Get well all. You and those who have had to make sacrifices and difficult choices are in my prayers, but I have every confidence you will prevail.
I am supposed to fly across the country with my 8 month old to visit family this weekend and I am seriously considering not. I also have an outdoor Phish concert coming up where tons of friends from here and abroad will be attending. I am also seriously considering dipping out of that, which is also a devastating decision as this is almost like a family reunion for a close-knit group of friends.
It would be one thing if it were just my wife and me. Having a baby changes the calculus. Yes, I know it is quite rare for serious infections to impact babies, but we really don't understand the long-term risks and she hasn't even been sick yet, so I generally err towards caution.

Hope for everyone a speedy recovery and no lasting issues

Hope that everyone gets better– I know its really hit and miss but it seems the bast advice is to avoid large crowds still.
Im as fed up with wearing the mask as anybody, but it still looks like its not going away anytime soon. -
@mclaincausey I completely agree about kids/babies. I feel that if I get Covid because of my own actions then I can live with the results. If my kids get it because of my actions, then I don't know how I will handle that weight.
I have a trip booked for February that I am starting to second guess. Two kids (both under 12) who can't be vaccinated adds a variable to the equation that I just can't solve at this point. As we get closer to February, the solution will be easier to make…I'm just hoping that it will work out.

I’m hoping my kids can get approved for the shot next month. I’ll feel much better once they get it.
@Giles @Alex were you guys outside the whole time when together or was there an indoor component to the festivities? Ive been working under the assumption that outdoor exposure is unlikely. If that’s no longer the case that would be disheartening.
I hope you guys are hanging in there and I’m glad everyone got to enjoy the wedding and the trip without getting sick until the end.

Well-said @goosehd
A lot of people point to the fact that children seem to weather COVID quite well so far (though Delta seems to be upending a lot of our early conventional wisdom). What worries me though is that we don't fully understand long-term effects and have seen mild infections result in tissue scarring and other possibly irreparable damage. I know many view it as alarmist to think about the possibility of your child having a chronic, potentially debilitating illness surface down the road from this disease, but why take that chance? There are risks I am not prepared to take, and I think it would be cavalier with a cherished being's life to operate otherwise.
Call it living in fear if you like, but don't forget that fear is a survival instinct. We wouldn't be here without it.
I think we'll all get this virus sooner or later, and I want to push it back as far as possible when the virus is better understood and managed and we have better therapies to mitigate its impact.

My maternal granny had Polio as a kid, was never fully functional thereafter….
I think we'll all get this virus sooner or later,
100% agree…..

That’s very optimistic. Climate change, a mystery virus with a cure half the world doesn’t want, political implosion… we’re dealing with multiple self imposed extinction level events SIMULTANEOUSLY and we can’t be bothered to wear a mask at the grocery store without crying about it on Facebook (another invention of the anti christ).
The question isn’t whether one of them gets us, it’s which one gets us before the meteor.
But I’m generally a half empty kind of guy so take that for what it’s worth.
