I do think that’s a better fit. If you like the taper on the 888 then go for the 633. The comfort level with the lower rise is just something you adjust to as you wear them more. I had to adjust when I switched to a higher rise from wearing 666 and 777 for the past 10 years.
Look closely at how SE measures. Like Mike said they can seem vanity sized but really they don’t pull the waist taut when they measure, they just lay them flat so the measurement is smaller than the true circumference of the waist.
To further complicate things, remember that measurements don’t tell the whole story. A lot of people size down one in high rise because a lot of people have a smaller stomach compared to their hips or waist. For me a 33 777 fits about the same as a 32 888. The waist sits on a different part of my body so the measurement is different.

A 633 or 634 looks better to my eye. You may want to try on a 34 if you can, to see if the thigh feels better, or a small back rise difference helps you feel less exposed. The other thing I would suggest is to take a look at the work pant cuts like the 816, 822 or 728 because they have a lower front rise paired with a higher rear rise. Best of all worlds, IMO

Sorry to create any confusion. But this is what I meant by vanity sized. Looking at a Self Edge 633 posted measurements versus tagged they range from an inch to 1.5 inches larger than tagged. Plus if you take into account that the waist measured the SE way will be a half an inch smaller than the IHUK way. That is a lot bigger than the tagged size. I know usually raw/unsanforized denim comes an inch bigger than tagged to account for shrinkage. But this particular denim is "lightly sanforized" and will not shrink much and will, in fact stretch an inch under normal circumstances…

Edit: these are my 634-19L tagged size 36…and you can see what they measure and check out how this compares to the posted measurements for yourself.

Ok being honest with myself, I guess I have the same degree of plumbers crack in the 888.
So I'll order the 634 in 33. Nearly identical to the pair I ordered and returned 4 months ago [emoji24]Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk

order them unhemmed, try them and when they fit send them back for hemming
Much cheaper
made the same mistake once, never again -
The plumbers crack seems like a byproduct of the low placement of your waist which due to your body shape is likely going to be present in any cut.
The other issue here is that if you ever lose inches in the waist/stomach area then the high rose will work better but you’ll have to go with a totally different size altogether which puts you back to square one. ??? This happened to me and it took a couple tries to figure out my new size.
If you want to work with what you have now, go with the lower rise. 633 for a tapered leg or 634 for straight.

I think a 634 look good either sized down, up, or right sized. It's pretty versatile. The taper of the 633 looks kind of wonky unless you wear them very slim… Speaking from my own experience.

I do have to say that those 633 look better than your 888, but man, it's totally up to you! If someone tells you that the 633 looks better but you like the 888 better, stick with the 888! It's only because you listed the 888 as being a bit low and loose and making you look slobby that people recommended a different cut or sizing down. Don't get cyber-bullied into buying Iron Heart jeans

What about the 1955? That cut seems pretty similar to 888.
I dont think the 11 inch front rise on the 634 will work for me. I tried some old 501s and the front rise was pretty snug at 11.5 inches.Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk

My 888S-SBG are the best fitting pair of jeans I’ve ever owned. This is where they sit:
I physically can’t pull them off without unbuttoning them. In contrast, I also have a pair of 888-SLB which are probably one size too large - the denim loosened around the waist more than I anticipated. The effect leads to the back pocket slightly bulging out as they sit lower on my hips. A belt fixes it, and since I’m not a perfectionist when it comes to sizing I’m more than happy to have a relaxed pair. However, if I spend $400+ on jeans, I want to feel good when I wear them. Since you’re questioning your pair, you clearly don’t feel that way.
To echo what everyone else says, if you want to stick with 888s I’d say you need to size down at least one tag size. If you wouldn’t be able to button them, you probably need a cut with a lower rise. The 633s looked good. I imagine a well fitted pair of 634s will look good too. Hope it works out for you

Almost identical, the main difference is the Lot Number….

Hi all ! I'm new to the forum, my name is Martin, 42 years old, I'm a baker in France.
Yesterday I received my first IH jeans, an 888 25oz, what a monster!
I am 1.73m ( 5'8 ) tall and I weigh 72kg (159lbs), after a long hesitation I chose a size 31. I manage to close the button quite easily but I find the waist tight. On the other hand, I am comfortable in the butt and thighs.
What do you think, should I change it to a size 32? -
@tinmar welcome to the forum mate, nice place to start with the 25oz!
They look good to me, I personally would not recommend sizing up. Don't be alarmed when you wash/soak them, they will tighten up but they will stretch back out and once you've worn them in, become the comfiest jeans you own!
-
@tinmar If you've managed to get into the jeans, tackled the buttons and they are tight in the waist then you've made it as the denim will relax a bit over time. Enjoy and welcome to the forum

You have a nice fit there. I wouldn't change a thing!
