IRON HEART FORUM "HOMETOWN HEROES" PICTURE COMPETITION - SPRING 2022
-
OK. I'm thinking… I might have to set something up over the weekend as I spend so little time at home during the week.
Work is a theme too…
But no IH at work (except perhaps if Tuesday works out for me).
As are hobbies/free time… dress a clock up in UHF [emoji1]
This might not work, but not a million miles away from what I'm thinking!

Yeah this seems fun I'm up for it

First post!
During lockdown v1.0 here in England, my good friend Marc wrote, directed, produced, and self-financed a horror/comedy feature movie “ManFish”. This weekend it was shown at an annual horror film festival in our old hometown of Romford. To those who don’t know, Romford is an East-London suburb that, putting it nicely, has a bit of a reputation. Romford is the sort of place that would regularly show up on documentaries on out of control drinking culture, social/moral decline, and a hotbed of low level crime and drug use. I think the place informs a lot of my friend Marc’s dark & surreal sense of humour.
Anyway, it was amazing for Marc to have his film accepted - over 500 films applied, and only 15 were shown. The quality of the writing, cinematography, acting, were all superb. The film was sold out, and there was a huge turn out of old friends, people from my teens and twenties who I’ve not seen in years. We had a blast, got very drunk (when-in-Romford…), and to my shame I failed to take a single decent photo, which I was hoping to do.
Anyway, here’s my 33-IND with a cool Manfish button, taken the next morning with a very sore head…

Thanks @neph93 , the fact you sympathise suggests you’ve had the pleasure of visiting? Sometimes I think “surely it’s not so bad” until I spend some time in the place and remember that yes, it fu*king is
@endo , that’s a cool idea, I’ll pitch the idea to him. He’s currently in talks to get distributors onboard, so I expect whether he’s able to would depend on what stage of the process that’s at… would be fun though!

@neph93 none take Rueben! It's really good to hear of grass roots success @jerkules. I'm aware that there are lots of local film festivals have sprung up over the past few years.
I am sadly familiar with Romford, and it was an incident I was party too in 1991 in the then notorious nightclub Hollywoods that led me to completely change my life for the better. 'associates' I used to go clubbing with were football hooligans and drug dealers. We paid off doorman at £200"a night so that they could deal safely. One night, one of the people I was with noticed someone who owed him money dancing on the dance floor. The next events were horrific.
I walked away, I followed my love of indie, metal, and hardcore punk, became vegan and straightedge almost overnight, and changed my career to become a social worker. I have never looked back with regret.
We moved from Grays, Thurrock, to Hockley, Essex in 1997.we got our then 2 Yr old son out of a hell hole over run by a couple of gangs that the Police had lost control of.
Hockley is a small town in South East Essex, I love it. People are generally friendly, with a genuine community feel. Our son is 6 now and we are lucky enough for him to attend an Ofsted outstanding school, we have an ancient woodland on our back step, and there is some lovely cost and countryside minutes away.
Essex gets a bad rep, partly deserved in places, but partly because it is easy fodder for the press and media. There are some incredible people and places here, which is why we continue to live here.
Peace and love from Essex ya'll

@Stuart.T , I had similar experiences but perhaps 10 years later. It feels like Romford is a place where you’re never too far from violence, crime, drugs, etc.. Even when you aren’t directly involved in any of those things, they’re always on the periphery. I’m very happy to hear that you were able to make positive change, out of what sounds like a horrendous event.
Couldn’t agree more about Essex, it gets a bad rep which is only partially deserved. There’s some beautiful parts to the county, and I imagine my family will stay here for a long while.

Without any tales of drug dealings or Romford, I'll just leave this here. We call it Tuglife

Kiel has been my 'home town' for 15 years now. Wasn't born here, but moved to the very North of Germany for a job. My children grew up here and other family members are close. Located between two seas there are places with less rain, but if it's sunny it's just great. (And if not, there is alcohol and friends.) People are generally relaxed, cool and - once you get to know them - cordial and cheerful.
Peace & love to everyone from Kiel

Great start!
Today is Hattieday.

I live in Carver, MN but as you could probably guess this picture isn’t it. For the last week we’ve been in Florida doing random tourist shit and trying to avoid crowds and avoid overpaying for mediocre food. We’ve mostly succeeded. What has been a wonderful 80 degree and sunny week took a turn for the worse today, and the chilly ocean wind and rain kept me from carving a giant Iron Heart Bell Logo in the sand.
By the way, I have been officially disqualified from the contest for posting a nude photo of myself with Iron Heart written on my chest in body paint. I’ll still participate, but it’ll be all for naught.

LoombreakersP.S. do not try and drive a 2wd Jeep onto the beach, as you will only get stuck and laughed at by the Wrangler driver behind you.
