Extinct section is extinct
-
I consider "Rock the Boat" to be my daughter's theme song–true story @goosehd
I think that Extinct just needs a little love not to chew so many cycles. The paging should be limited so that it is not possible to load hundreds of images on a page, for example. The rub there is balancing that against encouraging excessive clicks–what's the sweet spot? Maybe it could be broken down into a directory structure by release year, category of good, material, item number (e.g., IHSH-01 to IHSH-25 becomes a page, and so on) or some other organizing principle(s) and be a simple tree to navigate and search. Maybe it could be offloaded to a blogging platform.
I think it is an important "museum" and should live on in some form, even if you have to sacrifice usability a bit.

I'd like to have the section back!
Snagged a Chino off eBay yesterday, and wanted to research measurements before, that's when I noticed the section is missing, too.As mentioned before, it doesn't benefit you directly, but it's a great feature for ensuring trust in the brand.
For people buying used it's a great resource, also when comparing measurements of older stuff you own with new pieces. -
Personally, I just use it for the measurements, pictures, and forum link. 99% of the time, I'm digging up a page for an extinct piece because I found a used one on the markets and I want to see how it looks and how it fits.
So, I'm okay with it moving straight to the forums, so long as the forum thread contains the measurement charts and a link to product pictures.

My main use of it has always been to identify item numbers and make aftermarket purchases when a seller doesn’t provide good measurements. I recognize that this doesn’t really have any benefit to Iron Heart, but I sure will miss how easy it was to access this info.
The problem with relying on the forum, is that the majority of the older threads don’t have size charts. Or if they do, you have to wade through a lot of pages to find them.

I also use for referencing measurements and user reviews when purchasing from IH stockists or previously worn aftermarket. Noticed it wasn’t available and thought maybe it was a website glitch that was being resolved. This is unique to IH as far as I can tell and adds to the great customer experience imo. Hoping that some form of it can exist moving forward. However, keeping the great products coming should definitely be the priority.

The only times I've used the extinct section were before listing an item for sale, looking up something I found on eBay or Grailed or whatever, or when trying to find the item number to search for more pics or details from forum posts.
I wouldn't need the extinct section if all IH items had the item number on the tag, though…

:o what the- youbastards! what have you done? ???
trying to bring the l conversation down to my level -
Simply put, I have used the extinct section hundreds of times for all the reasons already stated.
-
I echo what pretty much everybody seems to be saying — I like it, I use it. Will miss it, hope there's some solution.
One thing sorta popped into my head when @mclaincausey mentioned a blogging platform. Mister Freedom does this sort of thing — Christophe Loiron has a Tumblr where he puts a lot of info regarding the development of products, etc. The company also has two Instagram accounts: one for the store, one for "archives."
I think there's probably something very doable among all the suggestions y'all have gotten today. At the end of the day, my experience has been that the extinct listings do contribute to a lot one-that-got-away feels, and most certainly this creates a lot of FOMO purchasing when new items are released.
In short, I think it drives buys. Just sayin'.

Iron heart lives by extinct section. I need this old stuff to compare.
Could you belief you say to the children: hey the history of you country is extinct now?!
Please bring it back. -
I agree with what everyone else has already said. I went to look up the measurements of an extinct shirt about a week ago and couldn't find anything, I figured it was a glitch due to the site update.
Please bring it back !

@Giles @Alex I thought about this a lot last night and we are all saying it would be nice to have back, but what hasn’t been addressed is the cost of keeping it. Would it be expensive to keep?
For example: I’m sure that most of us don’t mind spending $5.00 on a coffee, tea, beer, etc., but if we had to spend $500 for the same thing, we would quickly change our habits.
Just because we would like to save the information, doesn’t mean that you guys should pick up an expensive tab.

It's a core part of what I wanted Iron Heart shopping experience to be like, when I came up with the idea. Having that sort of archive is one of the ways that sets us apart from other brands.
As I said above, it takes up a lot of resource to maintain etc. etc. So, one of the reasons we decided to turn it off, was to actually see if it was missed, we had no other way of determining that.
We know the answer now - thanks.

I had an open tab on my browser of the IHJ-82 I was researching as Selfedge still has them in stock. They don't measure the IH way. I also looked up the forum page and read through that. This is typical of how I would use it fairly often.
So I noticed right away when my browser page wouldn't load and instead I got the message that it is temporarily off line and to send an email if you miss it.
I was going to shoot an email but then my day got busy and I figured the crew would be flooded with emails already. I wish I would have sent it now but here it is on the forum instead.

Sorry to be a contrary voice, but I found the 'extinct' section unbearable. So often I would type in '634', or 'Western', and I would have to scroll through reams of shit I couldn't buy anymore before I could get to what I actually wanted - yes, I was aware of the filter options.
It's very clear why people are upset - understandable, even - but maybe the extinct, or OG models, deserve their own section on the forum.
As a forward facing, no bullshit brand, it makes sense to have the website clear of the pieces that are no longer in circulation to make room for the new leaves to flourish, so to speak.
Just my opinion x
