So this thing stretches? If so, do the chest and shoulder areas stretch out? My main gripe with the shirt, other than the tight elbow is it "feel" small when new. Should I give the shirt a chance? Here's a fit pic. I really don't think this shirt will ever be a jacket for me (worn outside of another shirt), even with some stretching. I also think the shirt can use another inch in length too.

This might be my favorite denim IH shirt. It's so damn comfy and the sizing was spot on.
Thanks for the cool threads.

I think it looks fine. But if it feels tight, and too small, then it will probably never be comfortable for you. The dimensions will relax a little if put under stress, but a shirt will never stretch like jeans.

Thanks for clarifying this. Ok will likely exchange for a XXL then. For me, perhaps the IHSH-246NIN spoiled me with that slightly larger and longer cut. I feel so much more relaxed wearing that shirt. These tighter cuts sometimes make me feel I'm trying too hard.

The current fit looks perfect to me and I would advise against exchanging.
The elbows will stretch and soften up (but you won’t get much stretch anywhere else). It looks like the the shirt ends about 1 inch below your belt, which is exactly what you want.

I don’t have this one but the 99 stains my t shirts. Especially under the arm pits. And on the back of I wear a backpack.
I’ve also had indigo transfer from the shirt to the arm pits of a jacket and then to a white t shirt.

I never noticed any crocking onto white tees with my IHSH-178. Nor have I noticed it with OD jeans onto white sneakers.

Seriously? I feel like I have indigo transfer on pretty much everything I own…I don't own the 293 (yet, must resist temptation :D) but I gotta think it would probably drop a bit, or a lot on a white T. Or anything else for that matter.
-
@gniquil I think that fit looks great but if it doesn't feel good, you won't rock it. If your gut is telling you to size up I'd follow your instincts. It's a bummer to own a piece like this and not feel 100% comfortable in it. You'll end up just not wearing it much.

From regular indigo, sure, but never from OD. And I have had a lot of OD.

I threw mine in the wash (delicate) last night and letting it hang dry. I like to do that right away because I find that the fabric breaks in a lot easier after a wash. I also like to reset my collar, which often comes a bit hiked up in the back. This lets me set the crease a bit lower. And, further, this gets rid of some of the sulphur, which is just a preference. I've become more of a vintage fader in my advancing years, so machine washes/hang dries are going to be the norm for this, rather than worrying about crisp honeycombs on the elbows (which, based on wearing yesterday, are going to form no matter what).

Fit advice, fellas? Too big across the chest I think….
-
Richard: Looks like it might be a size too big as a standalone shirt. Shoulders might be a hair wide (tough to say), chest does look a bit loose. This size probably will work great if you want to do some layering under it with flannels or other denim shirts. If you're looking at this as just a heavyweight shirt with just a tee under it, yeah, you might have success going down a size (though that might be too small! tough to say over the internet).

I think it looks great @Richard as is. You will have zero layering ability with a size M, and you will get some softening and maybe the tiniest amount of shrink with a wash that will perfect the fit. I bet it feels weirder and roomier across the chest than reality due to the stiff fabric and the heavy chest pockets.
-
@Richard the fit looks really good. The shoulders and length are perfect. The sleeves look a bit long but will shorten up once you put creases in them. It's hard for me to judge the chest with your arms at your side but I wouldn't say it look too big.
Regarding layering, you have to decide if you want a shirt or a jacket. You can't have one size that serves both purposes.
