Hey folks, kind of wondering about the fit on these (w34)…looking at the pics (pics suck old phone) they don't seem too off but they are really roomy. Didn't have any issue ever getting these on or buttoning em up and were totally comfortable the second I put them on. Actually surprised how comfortable they are, fabric is sensational!
Given the "stick it out its worth it" comments I've read I'm wondering if I should have sized down possibly? They've been hot soaked and then washed so all shrinkage is sorted. I guess my only concern is with wear they would stretch in the top block and have a bit of a sloppy look, there's def a lot of fabric sagging in the bum zone and I'm only on day 3. Thoughts?

The sagging fabric (or "diaper butt" as some call it) won't ever change - at least that has been my experience with multiple cuts and sizes. You have to learn to live with it I think it's due to the wide top block that IH has due to the placement of the rear pockets.

Thanks everyone, its a good point about the issue of uncomfortable if sizing down. Dunno, maybe I'm right in between sizes. I can pull then down to my knees when they're fully buttoned up which feels off, but I'll give it some thought. Maybe gives me a good excuse to eat more burgers Thanks again for the input!!

I’m guessing the fact you can pull them down when buttoned is due to where the 777 sits on the waist. Since they’re low rise they tend to sit on the wider part of the hips. A higher rise pair (like the 888s) would sit on a narrower part of the waist, depending on body shape of course. I have to wear a belt with my 777s, but don’t really need to with my 888s.

Well yeah kinda, I'd have to wear em up a higher really since theres so much room. Did you find yours sorta slimmed up a bit as they formed to your shape?

The pics that you posted don’t seem as loose as what you’re describing. Maybe show us one pulling out the waistband, or standing neutrally instead of with your legs spread out.
The jeans will mold to your body more as they break in, but I wouldn’t describe this as “slimming”.

First foray into XHS territory.
Apologies in advance for a slightly off-topic post:
I ordered this pair in March and @Graham very kindly found me the smallest waist. Since I was planning a visit in May anyway I asked Graham to stack them for me. I finally made it down 3 weeks ago. @JoshC met me and had some items prepared for me. In the end I walked away with the stacked XHS and the 721 in navy, hemmed on the spot by @Ross .
Massive thank you to @Graham and @JoshC for setting me up with new gear, @Ben for a quick repair job, that is much better than anything I could achieve, and @Ross for instant hemming.
All around great and worthwhile trip to Gosport and just another reason why I hold you up as shining examples of superb customer service!

Good luck on your xhs journey @Tago Mago!

Just wanted to post an update hoping it might help others with sizing issues (fit pics posted a page or two back). I had sold my w34's and sized down to a w33, asking for the largest thigh measured pair from IH. I wore em for a few days then hot washed (60deg), they sucked up nice but after a few days they felt roomier than they should again. I contacted IH to get advice and they felt based on how I was describing the fit and measurements I could go down to a w32. Which I have, fit pic posted ^. When these arrived I could not get the top button done, like no way. The other areas were pretty snug but the hips & thigh felt ok/doable. After an hour or two walking around the house w/o the top button done up I took em off and the next day, with extreme effort, could get the top button baaarely done. After another day it wasn't that much of struggle to get them on. I am now a week in and the top button can be done up relatively easily and they are pretty comfortable. Snug, but they feel perfect. Overall I could have made the w33 work but I think the w32 is a better fit.
Here is my experience on how the fabric/fit has behaved for me thus far:
- They stretch a fair bit, pretty fast at first (will see how much more with time)
- Cold soak with no agitation pretty mush does nothing except remove some starch
- Hot wash really tightens up the top block, as in seems to get less baggy in the front and seat. Inseam shrinks a lot with this
- The tighter fit seems to be pushing the hips out a bit which is making them sit better on my hips, where the larger fit felt like it was sliding off my hips all the time (seems like this is a common thing from reading posts). I could easily wear these with no belt atm.
Lastly, I can't say enough about the help from Ross at IH. The customer service is unreal. I could have got these way cheaper locally but it is 100% worth doing the due diligence to get the right size to achieve the fit you want.
Sorry for the long post but thought it would be good to share.
P.s. I now have a w33 hemmed to ~28" that wil go up in the FS thread

I always get a little confused/borderline irritated when someone apologizes for a long post. Long posts are great. Especially when someone takes the time as you have done to share knowledge and experience.
Thanks for an awesome post.

…I love all the cuts of the XHS but I've been reaching for these a little more often than the rest lately.
...I wasn't aware of the 'wide rear pocket' phenomenon until recently, apparently helps to keep your wallet from being directly under your butt bone when sitting on the bike, good job Haraki!!
